What is Sensitive Skin?
Taking care of sensitive skin can be tricky and challenging. From an unexpected rash to uncontrollable redness, the solution to the perfect care can seem complicated and hopeless. According to Medical News Today, “Sensitive skin is a common issue but not a medical diagnosis in itself. The term generally refers to skin that is more prone to inflammation or adverse reactions. People with sensitive skin may have strong reactions to chemicals, dyes, and fragrances present in products that come into contact with the skin”. My experience with sensitive skin has been a rollercoaster ride, but there’s always a solution. First, you need to be willing to adapt to a new lifestyle. One that is clean, toxic- free, and simple. You will soon realize that you environment, the food you eat, the products you use all have an impact on your reaction.
A New Lifestyle
My journey with sensitive skin started about 3 years ago when I unexpectedly had a bumpy rash around my mouth and chin, and dry patches on the corner of my nose. I had absolutely no idea what it was. At that point, I had already been well introduced and savvy enough about skincare and skincare products in general. Knowing me, I purchased all sorts of different products that were advertised as products for “redness” or “dry patches”. I tried to stay in the clean beauty lane as much as possible. Nothing worked! After weeks of ongoing rashes, I researched my symptoms to the t and from the hundreds of articles and blogs I’ve read, turned out it was a skin condition called “perioral dermatitis”. What does that even mean? According to AOCD, “Perioral dermatitis is a facial rash that tends to occur around the mouth. Most often it is red and slightly scaly or bumpy. Any itching or burning is mild. It may spread up around the nose, and occasionally the eyes while avoiding the skin adjacent to the lips. The cause is
I saw my dermatologist who in fact confirmed that it was “perioral dermatitis”. She then prescribed me with medicated creams which by the way made it worse. That’s when you know you have extremely sensitive skin. At this point in my skincare journey, I incorporated Babe Essentials products and alternated them with other clean beauty brands that were effective. Babe Essentials’ best seller is the Clarifying Face Gel, an aloe verra gel base acne treatment. Considering that this product was developed for acne prone skin, I decided to introduce it in my skincare routine. Guess what? My flare ups had decreased. I then discovered Aloe Verra was my new best friend. Luckily for me, I have a ton of aloe verra plants in my garden. When I had flare ups, I took an aloe leaf, scarped out the gel and used it as face mask. In October 2019, Gentle Babe, Babe Essentials’ face oil for sensitive skin, was developed to complete the
perfect skincare routine.
